Ready to leave your 9-to-5? Here are 5 lessons you need to learn before you make your leap!

Are you thinking of leaving your 9-to-5 and dreaming of your own business, flexible schedule, and freedom?

Before you make that leap, here are the top five lessons I learned the hard way when I left my full-time job:

LESSON 1: Get Ready to HUSTLE

You’ll probably end up working double the hours you did at your old job, especially in your first year. There will be days when you’ll doubt every life decision you’ve ever made. But surviving these tough times isn’t just about professional growth—it’s a crash course in personal development. It truly is worth it in the end if you survive your first few years.

LESSON 2: You'll Need MORE MONEY Than You Think

Saving up six months’ worth of expenses? Double it. Life loves throwing curveballs, like unexpected home repairs or a sudden spike in mortgage rates. I’ve come close to bankruptcy during my first year, and I’m not the only one. Access to emergency funds can be your lifeline, as without them, you might find yourself needing to return to a traditional job.

LESSON 3: Find a REAL Problem to Solve

Sure, you can start a business based on your passion, but is anyone actually willing to pay for it? Do your homework, and make sure there’s a market for what you’re offering. Make it easier on yourself and have a stable income to live comfortably first, and then explore other passion projects. Be realistic about your financial needs for survival.

Transitioning from employee to boss is no joke. Save yourself the headache and hire a business coach. Trust me, trying to figure it all out on your own is a recipe for burnout.

LESSON 5: Delegate or Drown

As your business grows, so do your responsibilities. Learn to delegate tasks and scale your operation. Hiring a virtual assistant was a life-saver for me. It kept me from losing my sanity and running back to the 9-to-5 grind.

These are the top 5 lessons I wish I had learned before leaving my 9-to-5.
